Within the confines of a massage parlor in Flushing, Queens, Amy and Didi navigate romance, happiness, and the obligations of family thousands of miles from home. Despite the physical and emotional toll their work extracts, the women who live at the parlor have fortified an impenetrable sisterhood.
When tragedy shatters the rhythm of their Lunar New Year, Amy is jolted into confronting her own desires for the first time. Though she finds temporary solace in Cheung, a married man torn between obligations in Taiwan and connections in Queens, she soon realizes survival demands leaving more than just the city behind. Director Tsang crafts a poignant portrait of grief and displacement in Blue Sun Palace, exposing the precariousness of this immigrant enclave. With remarkable restraint, she lets her experienced actors sit in the quiet melancholy of deferred dreams—dreams that persist, even when their realization seems impossible.
