MeimageDance

MeimageDance
Founded in 2010, MeimageDance centres its creative work around Artistic Director Ho Hsiao-Mei, renowned for her distinctive, imaginative approach to contemporary dance. In 2011, the company launched the New Choreographer programme, a long-term initiative inviting outstanding Taiwanese dancers and choreographers based abroad to “come home” to create and perform. The project has fostered international artistic exchange for over a decade.

Dedicated to strengthening global and regional networks, MeimageDance co-founded the Dance Asia Now Festival in 2023 with partners from Japan and Korea. The festival connects Asian dance artists and creators through performances, forums, and collaborations, exploring the embodied expression of Asian cultural identity and contributing to a sustainable dance ecology in the region.

In recent years, the company’s works have gained international recognition, presented at Ars Electronica Festival (Austria, 2025), SXSW (2024), Kunstfest Weimar (2024), Roppongi Art Night (2024), Theatre Olympics (2019), and Internationale Tanzmesse NRW (2016), among other major festivals and platforms.

Selected Stage Works
• The Lost Limbo-Sister Lin-tou (2025) – Taiwan’s first dance-theatre production integrating VR and immersive experience, with 90 performances in Taipei
• My Dear (2023, Re-creation) – A poetic inquiry into the splendour and solitude of human emotion
• Renaissance of its Ashes (2019) – A new constructivist philosophy in dance
• New Paradise of Silent Island (2018, Re-creation) – A glittering, hybrid reflection on Taiwan’s plural cultural identity

VR Works
• Barbie’s Monologue VR (2024) – A reflection on voyeurism, power, and female self-gaze
• Flourishing Forest: From Flesh to Virtual – The Reincarnation of Sister Lintou (2023)
• From Flesh to Virtual: Renaissance of its Ashes (2021)

Taiwan Series
Launched in 2023, March of the Silent Island is a three-year collaborative project engaging with local folk parade troupes to reinterpret Taiwan’s living traditions through contemporary body language. Through dance workshops and community performances, MeimageDance invites the public to step, move, and dance together—creating a “new tradition of dance that begins now,” celebrating dance as a shared, joyful expression of life.
