Our Youth in Taiwan
Taiwan | 2018 | 118 minutes | Director: Yue Fu
Democratic progress will never thrive on star-power alone but takes the dedication of each citizen.
Stories of bidding farewell to one’s youth and growing up are commonplace. The dream shared by the protagonists in the film is to build a better country by rebelling against the establishment. However, their fight becomes part of history in the turbulent relations between Taiwan and China. Is it still possible for them to continue fighting for the ideals they had been pursuing?
The Best Documentary winner of the 55th Golden Horse Awards, Our Youth in Taiwan, took 8 years of filming and editing. A Taiwanese student movement star, a celebrity Chinese student in love with Taiwan, and a Taiwanese documentary filmmaker passionate about politics find the possibility of collaborating with each other in social movements.
“People tend to think this film is about politics, but it is actually more about youth.” Director Fu once said. She hopes this film could explore the possibility of mutual understanding and initiate dialogues between the youth in Taiwan and China.
