Vancouver Taiwanese Film Festival 2017

The 11th Vancouver Taiwanese Film Festival is playing at Vancity Theatre from June 9th to 11th, showcasing great films from Taiwan.

Films this year include: the star-studded folk song documentary “Ode to Time”, romance comedy “My Egg Boy”, renowned director Wei Te-Sheng’s new musical movie “52Hz, I Love you”, tension-filled suspense drama “White Lies, Black Lies”, the box-office hit horror “The Tag-Along”,  a spotlight on LGBT rights the “Pride Series”, a history drama based on real events “Formosa Betrayed”, the snapshot-of-life drama “Hang in There, Kids!” and “Betelnuts Girls”. Chinese Language Film Festival Ireland

The inaugural Chinese-language Film Festival Ireland débuts this year at the Irish Film Institute with Made in Taiwan, a festival highlighting the work of master filmmaker Hou Hsiao-Hsien and his longtime collaborator, screenwriter Chu Tien-Wen.

The festival will run from May 11th to 14th and will feature rarely-screened award-winning films by the internationally-acclaimed Taiwanese master director, as well as an exclusive masterclass and post-screening Q&As. The masterclass, supported by Screen Training Ireland, will be led by Chinese-language cinema expert Professor Chris Berry of King’s College London. Continue reading

41st Hong Kong International Film Festival: Edward Yang, 10-year Commemoration

The 41st Hong Kong International Film Festival HKIFF41 (11 to 25 April 2017, Hong Kong) will present “Edward Yang, 10-year Commemoration”, a retrospective of the late director’s works.
Cinephiles can enjoy the rare opportunity to revisit all of his seven feature films, including the newly restored classics Taipei Story (1985) and A Brighter Summer Day (1991). Continue reading
